5th Annual Grand Bonsai Exhibition to be held at Oak Hammock this weekend

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – For the fifth year in a row, Oak Hammock at the University of Florida will host the Grand Bonsai Exhibition. The event is jointly hosted by the Oak Hammock Bonsai Club and the Gainesville Bonsai Society on Saturday, May 16, and Sunday, May 17. This event is open to the public.

Club members and participants from all over north Florida will have more than 60 trees on display for attendees who want to learn about the art of bonsai. There will be numerous sizes displayed, including various styles and different plant materials. Attendees can participate in live demonstrations and free giveaways every hour. Club members will be on hand to answer questions about bonsai, and starter bonsai trees and supplies will be on sale.

Bonsai gardening is an excellent activity for people of all ages, and particularly for older adults. Pruning, sculpting, shaping, and repotting the trees is a great way to maintain dexterity and coordination while connecting with nature in a therapeutic way. People who practice bonsai gardening report less stress and anxiety, feelings of accomplishment and productivity, and enhanced patience and focus.
