Gainesville man arrested for breaking down ex-girlfriend’s door

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Chance Dillon White, 20, was arrested last night for allegedly breaking down his ex-girlfriend’s door in an attempt to enter her apartment after she closed and locked the door.

At about 9:03 p.m. on July 31, an Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to Santa Fe Oaks apartment complex (8000 block of NW 31st Avenue) and reported that White had gone to his ex-girlfriend’s apartment for a child exchange, and she let him inside to take a shower.

After White showered, the victim reportedly asked him to leave, but White allegedly refused and pushed the victim to the side. The victim took her children to a neighboring apartment where they would be supervised by a trusted adult, and she and White reportedly began fighting outside the apartment.

White allegedly “back-slapped” the victim, knocking her glasses to the ground and breaking them; the damage was estimated at $300.

The victim tried to call 911, but White allegedly took her phone, and she ran inside her apartment and locked the door.

White allegedly started banging on the door, eventually breaking it off the hinges and causing an estimated $500 in damage. White left in his vehicle.

Post Miranda, White reportedly admitted to intentionally hitting the door of the victim’s apartment in an attempt to enter the apartment against her wishes.

The officer noted that White is not a resident of the victim’s apartment.

Witnesses reportedly saw White and the victim fighting outside the apartment.

White has been charged with burglary of an occupied dwelling, preventing a victim from calling 911, domestic battery, and misdemeanor property damage. He has no criminal history; Judge Denise Ferrero ordered him held without bail pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s Office to hold him without bail until trial; if the judge denies the motion, bail will be set at that hearing.
