Woman arrested for shooting at ex-boyfriend’s mother

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Monica Reshai Paul, 30, was arrested yesterday and charged with aggravated assault after allegedly breaking the window of her ex-boyfriend’s car and shooting at his mother when confronted about it.

At about 11:44 p.m. on October 10, an Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to an apartment in the Sugarlane area (1200 block of SW 61st St) after multiple calls were received about gunshots. The victim also called law enforcement and reported that she had been shot at.

The victim reportedly told the deputy she heard a loud “boom” in the parking lot, went outside, and saw that the rear window of her son’s vehicle had been shattered by a large rock. She said she saw Paul standing in the grass next to the parking lot, and the two women began arguing. The victim reportedly said she would call law enforcement to get Paul off the property, and Paul allegedly said she didn’t “give a f*** about the police,” pulled a gun from her purse, and fired several shots at the victim. The victim said she ran inside her apartment, and Paul reportedly left on foot before the deputy arrived.

At about 4:01 p.m. on October 12, a Gainesville Police Department officer made contact with Paul at her residence, and the deputy responded to the scene to interview her. Post Miranda, Paul reportedly said she had gotten into an argument earlier in the day with her ex-boyfriend and he had threatened to break his own car windows if she called law enforcement about a previous domestic incident. She said she had never been at the victim’s apartment and denied all allegations made by the victim.

Paul has one local misdemeanor conviction (non-violent) and multiple convictions in Putnam County for petit theft, grand theft, and fraudulent use of a credit card. She has pending charges in Alachua County for petit theft and resisting an officer without violence. Judge Adam Lee ordered her held without bail.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • Nice neighborhood.
I can’t wait for it to become part of Spring County.
I am concerned that the Springs County movement is on hold while the Newberritards are busy stealing a public school from Alachua County. Hurry up and fund that charter school and get back on your Springs County crusade. Please.

    • As of now this suspect resides in the Utopia of Gainesville (Gpd made contact at her residence)and would make a better Ambassador for Gainesville than in Springs County. She would probably not live in Springs County due to it becoming more law and order than Gainesville.

    • Any secession border should be debated. I agree it should not start at 34th St, but further west (past the SWAG area, say Jonesville so the WestEnd Park amenity stays in AC).

      • The border at least needs to be I-75. That puts the Alachua County money pit known as the Celebration Pointe Sports Center as belonging to Springs County, who will have to assume the building and its debt and pay for it. AC owes $38 million principal and interest for that pit.
The worst is Tax Revenue Bond Series 2021B for $15,260,000 that matures August 1,2036. It is interest only until then, $315,882 per year. The entire balloon payment debt is due on August 1, 2036.
Please let Springs County have to pay this off with their no tax government economy. I really want to see how Springs County management comes up with the $15 million.

  • This lying thieving bum should have been charged with attempted murder. How do you shoot at someone multiple times and only get a aggravated assault charge? I find it amusing that they all say they don’t give a f about police or care about going to jail until those same police are looking for them and then they run and hide and claim it wasn’t them they ain’t do nuffin.
