Alachua County Republican Executive Committee elects new officers
Press release from Alachua County Republican Party
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Members of the Alachua County Republican Executive Committee (ACREC) held their organizing meeting this past Saturday, December 14, to elect new executive officers. The ACREC’s mission is to serve as rank-and-file worker bees of the Republican Party of Florida’s efforts and be a resource for local candidates or campaigns.
“We are not campaign managers. We don’t run campaigns directly. We serve as a local resource pool and toolbox, if you will, for Republican candidates who want to run for office, whether that is a City position or even Congress,” states Tim Marden, who concluded his first term as Chairman.
The local executive committee is made up of local precinct captains but also includes any elected Republicans at the City, County, or State levels. Other members include State Committeeman Stafford Jones and State Committeewoman Raemi Eagle-Glenn, who were re-elected to four-year terms over the summer without opposition. Had Jones or Eagle-Glenn drawn fellow Republican opponents, their names would have been on the ballot for selection by all register Alachua County Republicans.
Newly elected officers include Lamar Moon as Vice Chair and Melissa Cook as Treasurer. Re-elected to serve their second two-year terms are Tim Marden, who will lead the party as chairman, and Judith Jensen as secretary. Unlike the State Committeeman and woman positions, executive officers are solely elected by the members of the executive committee.
During the off-election cycle, Marden hopes to create a more thorough training program for candidates who want to run for office. Marden said, “We spent two years building and have a ton of resources to put to use. We want anyone willing to run for office to be prepared and set up for success.”
