Alachua man killed in crash on SR 45

NEWBERRY, Fla. – A 64-year-old Alachua man was killed last night in a two-vehicle crash on State Road 45; a 41-year-old Archer man was seriously injured.

According to a release from the Florida Highway Patrol, at about 7:02 p.m. on September 4, an SUV driven by the Archer man was traveling south on SR 45 near SW 215th Terrace, and an SUV driven by the Alachua man was traveling north on SR45. For reasons still under investigation, the vehicle driven by the Archer man swerved into the northbound lane and hit the Alachua man’s SUV head-on.

Both drivers were transported to a local hospital, where the Alachua man was pronounced deceased. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.

A traffic homicide investigation is pending.
