All families are invited to ACPS Magnet Showcase

Press release from Alachua County Public Schools

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – All Alachua County families of school-aged children are invited to learn more about the many educational opportunities available to them at the district’s upcoming Magnet Showcase.

For the first time, the Showcase will include all of the district’s academic and career tech magnet programs in elementary through high school. Representatives from those programs, including students enrolled in some of them, will be sharing information and providing application and deadline information.

“This will be a great opportunity for families to learn more about what these programs have to offer in one location,” said Shannon Ritter, director of the district’s career tech programs. “I think students and families will be amazed at the many diverse opportunities available in this district for students at all grade levels and with a wide range of interests.”

The Showcase will be held Saturday, November 16, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. With more programs to be featured and based on the number of previous participants, the event has been moved from a high school to the Alachua County Sports and Event Center at 4870 Celebration Pointe Avenue in Gainesville.

Magnet programs are open to any student (including those not currently enrolled in the district), regardless of where they live and what school they are zoned to attend. Students who are accepted and live more than two miles from the magnet program site will have access to transportation.

A list of magnet programs by school with links to more information is available at https://www.sbac.edu/magnets. Later that site will be updated with information on application timelines, magnet open house schedules, and more. Families will be able to apply for up to three programs with one application.
