Anglers raise $100K for UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital

Press release from UF Health
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – This week Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals at UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital celebrated another splash by the Fishing for Kids saltwater trout tournament.
In April, more than 100 boats filled with anglers reeled in $83,000 in donations to benefit critical research, lifesaving medical equipment, and other services for pediatric patients at UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital. On Thursday, Charles Perry Partners, Inc. came forward to add $17,000, bringing the total raised to six figures.
“I have been able to see how deeply this community rallies behind our mission and invests in helping us move medicine forward,” said Michael Holmes, M.S.A., UF Health senior vice president and Gainesville regional president. “These employees see firsthand how charitable support can make a difference within our walls.”
Fishing for Kids, the Sea Hag Marina-based tournament in Steinhatchee, was created by a handful of UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital facilities workers inspired to come together to fish for a good cause. In its two decades, the organization has raised $400,000 to help children at UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital.
“The tournament continues to grow in both size and impact,” said Bobby Baird, facilities director at UF Health Shands, adding that organizers are “incredibly grateful” for everyone who participates in and supports the event.
Brian Leslie, president and principal of Charles Perry Partners, said company officials were “moved” by the Fishing for Kids committee’s hard work as well as “the impact this event has on young patients at UF Health Shands Hospital.”
