Annual fall cane boil returns to City’s Morningside Nature Center

Press release from City of Gainesville

The City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department, along with the Friends of Nature Parks, invite neighbors to this year’s cane boil after a yearlong hiatus due to the pandemic.

When: 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 27
Where: City’s Morningside Nature Center, 3540 East University Ave.

Neighbors will witness the conversion of sugar cane from stalks to syrup in a process that dates back centuries. This year’s event celebrates the fall harvest with Americana music, games, living history demonstrations, and guided nature walks during the event. Food will be available for purchase.

The event is free and open to the public. To help ensure public health and safety, neighbors are asked to practice social distancing at the event.
