Annual Flatwoods 5K to be held at UF’s Austin Cary Forest on Nov. 1
Press release from UF/IFAS
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The annual Flatwoods 5K is touted by many local runners as Gainesville’s most beautiful, memorable 5K venue.
The run starts just after sunrise on Saturday, Nov. 1, and traverses a scenic limerock loop road around UF’s Austin Cary Forest (10625 NE Waldo Rd, Gainesville, FL 32609).
Runners and walkers will be able to take in the sights, sounds, and smells of the forest with friends and family, sure to create lasting memories.
Forest Manager Scott Sager said, “The forest isn’t open to the public, so this is a great opportunity to come out and see a well-managed pine forest that UF operates. Runners often remark about seeing deer and hearing birds sing while they are running the loop.”
Race proceeds support forestry education and outreach to help sustain Florida’s natural heritage.
The race is chip-timed by Start2Finish Race Management. The course is accurately measured (but not USATF certified), with mile markers.
There is a water station at the halfway point, and post-race refreshments.
Strollers are welcome, but please note the road is unpaved.
Start time is 8:30 a.m.
Registration is $20. Runners 12 years and under race for free.
