Archer home destroyed by fire; residents safe, but multiple pets were unable to escape

At 5:12 a.m. on June 1, crews from Alachua County Fire Rescue and Newberry Fire Department were dispatched to a reported building fire at 16725 SW 134th Avenue in Archer. ACFR Engine 82 from Archer was the first to arrive on scene.

They found a small single-story residence, fully involved. All five family members were out of the house, along with four of the family’s dogs. Crews were able to quickly bring the fire under control, but the home was a total loss. No one was injured, but multiple pets did perish in the fire. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation. The Red Cross is providing resources to the family.
