Attorneys to host educational meetings on rail-trail conversion near High Springs
Press release from Lewis Rice
ALACHUA, Fla. – Attorneys Lindsay S. C. Brinton and Meghan S. Largent from the Federal Takings & Rails to Trails practice of law firm Lewis Rice will host educational meetings in Alachua on Monday, December 15, and Wednesday, December 17. They will discuss the potential compensation claims for landowners whose property lies along a proposed rail-trail conversion that would turn 1.4 miles of a former CSX railroad corridor near High Springs into a public-use hiking and biking trail. Dozens of local landowners may be eligible for compensation from the federal government for the taking of their land.
Brinton and Largent have successfully represented and continue to represent landowners across Florida whose property has been taken for rail-trail conversions under the National Trail Systems Act. They have recovered compensation for landowners in Sarasota County, Pinellas County, Lee County, Lake County, and Miami-Dade County. In 2024, they secured more than $22 million for three landowners in St. Petersburg, Florida.
At the informational meetings, the attorneys will explain why and how a claim can be made against the federal government, timing, how landowners will be represented in pursuing their takings claims, and how compensation will be determined, as well as answer questions. The meetings below are free and open to the public.
