Becky the English Labrador finishes service dog training and starts a new life with a U.S. Army veteran

Press release from Casper’s Camp Hope Dog Training

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Casper’s Camp Hope Dog Training – the behavior specialists in Florida – is proud to share the story of Becky, an English Labrador who completed service dog training and has now been placed with Nick, a young U.S. Army veteran.

Becky was selected through Hero Labradors, an organization that works with only a small number of trusted trainers across the country. Becky’s training was about more than commands. Service dog training focuses on calm behavior, confidence, and staying reliable in real-life situations—especially when things are stressful or distracting.

Becky trained for three years. During that time, she learned important skills like off-leash obedience, which helps a veteran feel safer and more confident in everyday life. Becky was also supported by the full team at Casper’s Camp Hope, including kennel staff and mentor dogs who helped guide her behavior and stability. She spent time in a family home environment to practice real routines, and she received consistent veterinary care from Dr. Michael Sturgeon.

Becky was matched with Nick because of his lifestyle and needs. Nick enjoys being outdoors and going on trail walks, and Becky’s calm personality and training make her a great fit. This placement is also part of The Underdog K9 For Vets Project, a nonprofit mission focused on supporting veterans and first responders with trained dogs.
