Bedroom fire extinguished, one dog deceased in residential fire

NEWBERRY, Fla. – Today at 9:54 a.m., units from Alachua County Fire Rescue and Newberry Fire Department were dispatched to a report of a residential structure fire in the area of SW 20th Place, just outside of the city limits of Newberry.

Crews arrived to find an active fire in the front bedroom and no reported injuries to the occupant of the home. However, one dog passed away due to smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
