Big House Party fundraiser to be held June 13

Press release from Big: Culture & Arts Festival

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Big team is excited to announce another event in our ongoing series of arts and culture offerings: the Big House Party this Friday, June 13.

Not your average house party, this event features three stages, live performances, DJ sets, dance classes, and an open mic session, not to mention a wellness room offering massage paired with live digital art creation. At midnight, guests will try their hands at breaking a piñata created by a local artist.

Event organizers envision the Big House Party as a vehicle to bolster Gainesville’s creative communities throughout the slower summer months and raise much-needed funds for the production of Big, a grassroots event primarily created through the blood, sweat, and tears of a small group of Gainesville-based, creatively minded twentysomethings.

“We’ve spent years building Big to serve as connective infrastructure for Florida’s creative communities: a festival, a retreat, a platform for collaboration, and a space where real people doing real work can meet, share, and build,” said Jahi Khalfani, co-owner of Dion Dia Records and How Bazar and producer of Big: Culture & Arts Festival.

“This year, we lost money for the third year in a row. The financial burden of falling short has always been carried on the backs of the co-founders and our lovely friends who contribute their time and skills to help make the festival possible. Ensuring that everything and everyone is paid out, year after year, has meant putting our well-being on the line to support our belief that communities in Florida — and humanity in general — can make this world a better place,” said Laila Fakhoury, co-owner of Dion Dia Records and How Bazar and event producer of Big: Culture & Arts Festival. “Throwing the Big House Party at a special home is a one-night-only celebration to raise funds and keep the momentum alive.”

The Big House Party will be held in a historic home located near the Sweetwater Branch Inn. The address will be shared with guests after they purchase tickets, which start at $16.13. For more information on how to secure tickets to the Big House Party, visit bigcaf.com.
