Blood drive to honor local auto accident victim Lisa Wallace

Press release from LifeSouth Community Blood Centers

LifeSouth invites the community to come together and show support for local accident victim Lisa Wallace when they host a blood drive in her honor on Saturday, March 13.  Lisa is currently hospitalized at UF Health Shands Hospital after a March 2 auto accident on I-75 that left one dead and three others, including Lisa, critically injured. The blood drive will be held at Harry Beckwith Guns and Range, located at 12130 US-441 in Micanopy, between the hours of 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Lisa, who is an RN and mother of three, displayed unbelievable heroism after the crash, despite losing her left arm and sustaining massive injuries to both legs. She bravely unbuckled herself, got out of her car and dragged herself across the highway toward the other victims to assist them before collapsing from massive blood loss. Lisa required multiple blood transfusions to save her life. Community members can honor Lisa’s bravery and help other patients in need by giving blood as well as donating to the GoFundMe page dedicated to helping the family with Lisa’s medical costs. Donations can be made at gofund.me/abb6f768.

After an accident, trauma patients like Lisa frequently need multiple transfusions of blood. They rely on blood donors to ensure that blood is available when they need it. Give local, save local. Please give blood.  Blood donors must be at least 17 (16 with parental permission), weigh at least 110 pounds, and be in good health. A photo ID is also required. All donors will be tested for COVID-19 antibodies. For more information on donating blood, call toll-free 888-795-2707 or visit lifesouth.org.
