Cans Across Campus 5k raises funds to provide over 23k meals

Press release from Bread of the Mighty
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Bread of the Mighty (BOTM), a branch of Feeding Northeast Florida (FNEFL), in partnership with the University of Florida Bread of the Mighty Club, hosted its inaugural “Cans Across Campus” 5K on Saturday, February 28. More than 130 participants laced up their shoes to join in the race held at Flavet Field.
The race raised enough funds to provide more than 23,000 meals for our friends and neighbors in need in Gainesville and the surrounding four counties BOTM serves.
Patrick Dodds, the Executive Director of Bread of the Mighty said, “This event was about so much more than crossing a finish line, it’s about coming together as a community to fight food insecurity. Not only did this race raise funds to help us provide meals for our neighbors across North Central Florida, it also strengthened the bonds between students, families, and local partners. When our community shows up like this, we’re reminded that the fight against hunger doesn’t happen alone.”
“It’s awesome to see how students can unite to create an impact in both the UF and Gainesville community,” added Harry Bishop, UF Club President and Event Organizer. “I can’t wait to see what the student organization will accomplish!”
