Carver Garden shooting is third homicide this month

Early this morning at about 2:00 a.m., numerous officers responded to Carver Garden Apartments (1101 SE 15th Street) after receiving several 911 calls regarding a shooting. Once inside the victim’s apartment, officers observed the unresponsive victim (a 34-year-old black male) lying on the floor with apparent gunshot wounds. Officers performed life-saving measures until EMS’ arrival. The victim was transported to the hospital by EMS; regrettably the victim died. The Gainesville Police Department would like to express our sympathies to the friends and family of the victim.

At this time, detectives are interviewing witnesses, and forensic personnel are collecting and processing evidence. Therefore, initial public information is limited as we want to ensure there is justice for the victim and their family. It is imperative that anyone with information about this homicide contact GPD. This is the third deadly shooting that has occurred this month. We understand this may cause some to feel concerned about their safety. Rest assured, GPD is applying significant efforts and resources to solve this murder.

This was a traumatic incident, and we would like to thank the first responders, communications personnel and victim advocates for their diligent efforts.
