City of Gainesville Housing Action Plan Draft Subject of Next Telephone Town Hall

The City of Gainesville department of Housing and Community Development will host a one-hour telephone town hall at 7:15 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16 to present a final draft of the City of Gainesville Housing Action Plan and answer questions from listeners about its proposed affordable housing strategies. The final draft of the plan is available online through this link

Speakers for the telephone town hall event include Gainesville City Manager Lee Feldman; Assistant City Manager Deborah Bowie; Anne Ray of the University of Florida Shimberg Center for Housing Studies; Blaise Denton and Ashon Nesbitt of the Florida Housing Coalition; and Andrew Persons of the City’s department of Sustainable Development. 

The draft housing plan will be presented, and speakers will review the following strategies to improve housing affordability in Gainesville: 

  1. Creating a Community Land Trust;
  2. Forming partnerships with area employers to create employer-assisted workforce housing for low- and moderate-income residents;
  3. Creating an inventory of public, institutional and underutilized land suitable for affordable housing.
