City of Gainesville Opens Application Process For Michelle Park Family Recreation Scholarship

Press release from City of Gainesville

The City of Gainesville department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs is accepting applications for the annual Michelle Park Family Recreation Scholarship. The deadline to apply is this Friday, December 18.

The scholarship awards one low-to-moderate income household in Gainesville with an annual pass to the City’s nature, recreation and cultural activities. Prior scholarship winners are eligible to apply. Additional scholarship criteria and an application packet are available on the City’s website.

Valued at $1,500, the scholarship enables a Gainesville family to enjoy 12-months’ worth of programs and events, at no cost to them, offered by the City and participating providers, including  the Samuel P. Harn Museum of Art and the Florida Museum of Natural History at the University of Florida. Past events and activities include swim lessons, golf lessons, park tours, and after-school day camps during school breaks and teacher holidays, among other offerings. (Due to the coronavirus pandemic, some activities may be limited, or not available, in 2021.)

The scholarship, established in 2014, is named after Michelle Park, who served as assistant director of the City’s Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department, and worked for more than 4 decades in the field.
