City of Gainesville Proclaims February 7th as Brie Komanski Day

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The City Commission of Gainesville, Florida, led by Mayor Harvey Ward, has officially proclaimed February 7, 2025, as Brie Komanski Day in recognition of 10-year-old gymnastics sensation Brie Komanski. This honor celebrates Brie’s historic achievements in gymnastics, dedication to academics, and commitment to inspiring others, making her a role model for young athletes and students nationwide.
Brie made history on December 7, 2024, at the USAG Florida State Gymnastics Meet in Miami, by earning a perfect 10.0 score on the uneven bars, securing her place as the #1-ranked gymnast in the U.S. on the event. She is also ranked #2 in Florida on Beam, Floor, and All-Around and #3 on Vault. She trains in Gainesville at Sun Country Sports Center.
Beyond gymnastics, Brie is a dedicated student at The Rock School in Gainesville, where she is enrolled in the rigorous International Baccalaureate (IB) program. Her ability to balance athletics, education, and community leadership exemplifies her dedication and perseverance.
Brie Komanski Day – A Day of Learning & Inspiration
To commemorate Brie Komanski Day, Brie will educate local youth in Physical Education (P.E.) classes alongside P.E. coaches, teaching safe stretching and warm-up techniques to help prevent injuries and promote healthy exercise habits. Additionally, these community outreach efforts will include gymnastics trivia to engage students in learning about the sport.
A strong advocate for faith and perseverance, Brie will also share how her faith in God has guided her through her journey as a student-athlete, inspiring young minds to pursue their dreams with determination and belief.
In addition to her success in sports and academics, Brie is currently working on a book series, set to launch in 2025. Through her writing, she hopes to inspire young athletes by sharing valuable lessons on perseverance, faith, and the importance of hard work.
“Brie’s discipline, talent, and work ethic are truly exceptional,” said Coach Peter Emery. “She has already made history, and this is only the beginning of what will be a phenomenal career in gymnastics.”
