City of Gainesville: Tropical Storm Elsa Update #2

Press release from City of Gainesville

Tropical Storm Elsa continues its trek northward at a slow 14 mph but is expected to weaken as it makes landfall. Our area remains under a tropical storm warning and tornado watch with heavy rains and gusty winds throughout the day. Elsa could bring as many as six inches of water to our area with possible flooding to area roadways. Public safety officials are asking all neighbors to remain indoors until the storm passes and stay off the roads as much as possible. This will enable emergency vehicles to respond to the highest priority needs first.

  • If you must travel on the roads and encounter a flooded roadway, do not drive through it. Remember the phrase, “Turn around, don’t drown.”
  • Alachua County has activated the 311 Critical Information Line for storm updates.
  • If you have a medical or law enforcement emergency, please call 911.
  • If your home sustains storm damage and you’re forced to evacuate, contact the American Red Cross for shelter and additional services. The public will be notified if and when area emergency shelters open.
  • Please call 352-334-2871 to report power outages and 352-334-2550 to report natural gas emergencies.
  • Please report any storm-related issues such as flooding, blocked streets, etc. online at www.myGNV.org, or use the myGNV mobile app available for download at www.myGNV.org. To report issues by phone, please call Public Works at 352-334-5070.
