City Proposes Amendments to Housing and Community Development Funding Plans

Press release from City of Gainesville

The City of Gainesville has proposed amendments to its 2018-22 Consolidated Plan, the 2018-22 Citizen Participation Plan, and the 2019-20 Annual Action Plan in order to reallocate federal and additional funding sources to support local COVID-19 relief and recovery efforts. The proposed amendments would modify priority needs and strategic plan goals to support the city’s proposed GNVCares initiative, which aims to provide direct assistance to city residents and small businesses.

Due to the executive orders issued in response to the COVID-19 crisis, several HCD projects have experienced delays in start-up or completion. Such delays, and the inability to maintain social distancing in order to undertake these activities, have curtailed the city’s and partnering agencies’ abilities to disperse CDBG and SHIP funding allocations as originally projected.

The amendments would enable the City to distribute funds to the GNVCares local recovery effort. Funds include

  • $800,608 in Community Development Block Grant COVID-19 funds (CDBG-CV); and
  • $437,170 in 2019-2020 CDBG funds

A virtual public meeting is scheduled at 3 p.m. Monday, April 27 to consider the proposed amendments.

The public is invited to participate by submitting comments in these ways:

  • By sending an email to Vian Guinyard at CockerhamFV@cityofgainesville.org. Emails must be received by 11 a.m. Monday, April 27 to be considered. The City of Gainesville will respond to all written correspondence received.
  • By phone to (800) 876-7516 on Monday, April 27 at 3:00 pm.
