City, Realtors Association Seek Public Comment
Press release from City of Gainesville
City of Gainesville Housing and Community Development (HCD) staff is soliciting feedback from area neighbors and realtors about local affordable housing needs during a virtual meeting this week. The aim is to review recommendations on its draft Housing Action Plan.
When: 3:30-5 p.m. Wednesday, August 5
Where: Livestreamed on the Facebook page of the Gainesville-Alachua County Association of REALTORS (GACAR).
Who: GACAR President Jeremy Thomas and Phimetto Lewis, HCD Housing Program coordinator, will moderate the program.
Moderators will field questions and suggestions from GACAR members during the meeting, and from neighbors’ posts in the Facebook comments section.
The current Housing Action Plan draft includes eight potential strategies for addressing affordable housing in Gainesville. The draft can be found online through the City’s HCD website. HCD hopes to hear from both neighbors and realtors about how the plan can be improved and address potential concerns.
“Community engagement is crucial to the process,” said Phimetto Lewis, HCD Housing Program coordinator. “We want to hear from our neighbors and learn which types of housing they want to see in our community.”
Feedback will be incorporated into the final Housing Action Plan sent to the city commission.
