Command Presence: Local Jiu Jitsu coach and chiropractor launches women’s self-defense workshop in Gainesville
Press release from Dr. Craig Sainz
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Alachua County women will soon have a new opportunity to build confidence, sharpen awareness, and learn practical self-defense skills. On Sunday, March 1st, Dr. Craig Sainz — 2nd-degree Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt and Doctor of Chiropractic — will host Command Presence: A Self-Defense Workshop for Women, a two-hour training designed to help participants stay calm, capable, and confident under pressure.
Unlike traditional self-defense classes that focus on fear-based scenarios, Command Presence emphasizes presence, boundaries, and real-world skills that can be practiced in a supportive, ego-free environment. The workshop will cover:
- Situational awareness & boundary-setting
- Survival escapes & getting back to your feet
- Defense against strikes & common attacks
- Tools for staying composed in high-stress encounters
“This isn’t a class about paranoia or victimhood,” said Dr. Sainz. “It’s about presence under pressure. Women are powerful — and they deserve practical options that support their safety, confidence, and peace of mind.”
The workshop will be capped at 8–10 participants to ensure personal attention and ample practice time. No prior training or athletic background is required.
Participants from last month’s workshop raved:
Craig’s self defense class for women today was amazing. Participants ranged in age from young teens to 83 (me), and Craig’s teaching style ensured that we all learned skills that we can actually use, in an environment that was supportive and friendly for everyone.
I left feeling more confident in my ability to learn skills to defend myself from an attack. I and my daughter will definitely be back for more instruction at this clean, inviting facility with a great coach and assistants-Sharron Bowker
Fantastic experience, I came for the women’s self defense training and it was amazing. Craig explains every technique thoroughly and gives you ample opportunity to practice and be proficient. He puts a lot of focus on you getting the correct form and feel of each step. It was very enlightening and I left actually feeling like I learned something

These workshops do book up very quickly, so we advise women to register as early as possible.
Future plans include quarterly workshops and a 4-week series for those wanting to continue building skills.
