Commissioner Manny Diaz, Jr. announces March Books of the Month

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Today, Florida Commissioner of Education Manny Diaz, Jr. announced March’s chosen books for the Commissioner’s Book of the Month, a monthly reading challenge to promote literacy and reading engagement in preK-12 schools. Each month, Commissioner Diaz highlights five recommended books – one per selected grade range.
“In a world filled with endless distractions, it’s key that we prioritize reading,” said Commissioner of Education Manny Diaz, Jr. “Reading is not just a pastime but an important tool for personal growth and development. Let’s make it a habit in our homes and show our children that reading together is one of the greatest gifts we can give them.”
The Commissioner’s recommendations for March 2024 are:
- PreK – Happy St. Patrick’s Day, Curious George by H.A. Rey
- K-2 – Shark Lady: The True Story of How Eugenie Clark Became the Ocean’s Most Fearless Scientist by Jess Keating
- 3-5 – Buffalo Bird Girl: A Hidatsa Story by S.D. Nelson
- 6-8 – Out of Hiding by Ruth Gruener
- 9-12 – The Light in Hidden Places by Sharon Cameron
