Commissioner Manny Diaz, Jr., announces November Books of the Month

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Today, Florida Commissioner of Education Manny Diaz, Jr., announced November’s chosen books for the Commissioner’s Book of the Month, a monthly reading challenge to promote literacy and reading engagement in preK-12 schools.

Each month, Commissioner Diaz highlights five recommended books – one per selected grade range. For this month’s selection, the Commissioner recommended books that are included on Florida’s B.E.S.T. Standards reading list for grades K-12.

“November is a time to give thanks and reflect on the blessings we have been given as Americans,” said Commissioner of Education Manny Diaz, Jr.  “I encourage families to spend time together reading during this holiday season.”

The Commissioner’s recommendations for November 2024 are:

  • PreK – Five Little Thank-Yous by Cindy Jin
  • K-2 – How to Catch a Turkey by Adam Wallace
  • 3-5 – In November by Cynthia Rylant
  • 6-8 – The Boy Who Fell off the Mayflower, or John Howland’s Good Fortune by P.J. Lynch
  • 9-12 – Mayflower: A Story of Courage, Community, and War by Nathaniel Philbrick
