Creating a legacy of love: Alachua Habitat’s 185th home dedication

Press release from Alachua Habitat for Humanity
ALACHUA, Fla. – Alachua Habitat for Humanity is proud to announce the upcoming dedication of a new home for the Ivery Family. This home represents a powerful story of resilience and hope as the Ivery family embarks on a new chapter in their hometown. The dedication will be held on Wednesday, October 30, at 10:00 a.m. at 14263 NW 136th Terrace, Alachua, FL 32615.
Shinda Ivery, a mother of three boys, has persevered through economic challenges and uncertainty to build a safe, stable home for her family through the Alachua Habitat Homeownership program. Growing up in Alachua, Shinda is thrilled to return to her roots and provide her children with a secure future. Her journey to homeownership not only fulfills her dream of stability but also creates a lasting legacy for her family in the very community she holds dear.
This build was made possible through the dedication of 118 volunteers, who contributed 977 hours of labor, as well as the generous support of sponsors. Special recognition is given to the City of Alachua for donating the lot and to grant partners including Florida Realtors Homeownership for All, State Farm, TD Charitable Foundation, Walmart Foundation, and the Hall of Framers 2024 Paddle Raise. Together, these partnerships reflect a shared commitment to making affordable housing a reality in our community.
Mayor Gib Coerper and Vice Mayor Ed Potts will speak at the event, honoring the partnership that made this project possible. Light refreshments will be provided following the ceremony, and the keys to the home will officially be handed over to the Ivery family.
