Cyclist killed in hit and run on SE 27th Street


According to a press release, Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) is investigating the hit-and-run death of a cyclist and 8:56 p.m. last night on SE 27th Street. The victim, a 46-year-old Gainesville man, was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was not wearing a helmet.

According to the report, a vehicle traveling southbound hit the cyclist, who was traveling southbound on the shoulder. The vehicle then fled the scene.

Today at approximately 12:30 p.m., FHP located the  2010 Hyundai Accent that was involved in the incident. The vehicle was located in southeast Alachua County. The investigation continues to determine who was operating the vehicle at the time of the collision.
