Dance Alive National Ballet presents ‘Dangerous Liaisons’ on Feb. 8

Press release from Dance Alive National Ballet
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Dance Alive National Ballet is proud to present DANGEROUS LIASIONS on February 8, 2025, at 7:30 p.m. at the Curtis M. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts in Gainesville. Tickets cost between $30 and $50, with discounted rates for children, students, and seniors.
The performance includes a trio of lush ballets: Kim Tuttle’s DANGEROUS LIAISONS with guest actors Nell Page Rainsberger and Gregg Jones, Judy Skinner’s RHAPSODY IN BLUE with the award-winning pianist Kevin Sharpe, and Tales Ribeiro’s riveting WHAT REMAINS.Â
Artistic Director Kim Tuttle had long been intrigued by the 1988 movie, DANGEROUS LIAISONS. Much reading and research later, she became compelled to create a new work, DANGEROUS LIASIONS, as a ballet. The result is a work that reeks of sensuality and intimacy. Laclos’ original letters being spoken by actors Nell Page Rainsberger and Gregg Jones enhances the classical yet original contemporary ballet movement that is at the sultry center of the ballet. With a simple iconic set design, translucent costuming, and boldly dramatic light design, the production is certain to be a memorable tour de force. Prepare to be seduced.Â
With RHAPSODY IN BLUE, DANB celebrates the 100th anniversary of the Gershwin work that originally premiered as “An Experiment in Modern Music.” Gifted pianist Kevin Sharpe, winner of the International Bach Competition, takes the stage, leading the dancers on a wild ride through the music and the space. Pure magic.
The program concludes with Resident Choreographer Tales Ribeiro’s riveting WHAT REMAINS: A STORY OF ALZHEIMER’S. This work, workshopped with dancers and members of the community, asks, “What happens when our memory is gone?” Then, “Is who we used to be also gone?” This is one story in which a fragment of memory, a moment of love, a treasure in time, is still there. For those of us who have experienced both the sorrow and joy of a friend, lover, or family member experiencing Alzheimer’s, this work lifts the spirit and reminds us of what was.
Awash in texture, live music, and theatre, the program features the dancers and choreographers of DANCE ALIVE at their zenith.
A perfect Valentine’s DATE NIGHT for lovers and friends. Recommended for 13 years old and above.Â
