Updated: Dance Alive presents The Ballet Process

Press release from Dance Alive National Ballet

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – DANB has always been good at pivoting. After all, it IS a dance company. However, the last month and a half has demanded a major pivot!

The first showing of The Ballet Process has been cancelled. Choreographer Tales Ribeiro has had to rehearse and then perform in five shows in addition to rehearsing DANB’s student group, The Next Generation. Add in two hurricanes, with the last requiring him to fly out early for a guest performance and resulting in another week lost. The decision was made to cancel the first showing of The Ballet Process, originally scheduled for October 16. The work, WHAT REMAINS: A STORY OF ALZHEIMER’S, is just too important to be treated casually.

The workshop sessions on November 15 and January 24 will be held at Pofahl Studios from 1:00 to 2:00, followed by conversation and refreshments. Mr. Ribeiro invites you to participate in the process. The finished work will be premiered on February 8, 2025, at the Phillips Center.

Original release:

Dance Alive proudly presents a new program, The Ballet Process. As he is often asked, “How do you create a new work?”, one of DANB’s gifted young choreographers, Tales Ribeiro, offered to answer the question.  Ribeiro invites you to join him and the dancers on the journey as he creates a new work – WHAT REMAINS: A STORY OF ALZHEIMER’S.

The sessions will be held at 1 p.m. on October 16, November 15, and January 24 at Pofahl Studios, 1325 NW 2nd Street. Tickets are available here.

With WHAT REMAINS: A STORY OF ALZHEIMER’S, what we love becomes eternal in our memory. But what happens when our memory is gone? Then who we used to be is also gone. But – not in all cases. This is one story in which a fragment of memory, a moment of love, a treasure in time, is still there.

If you are interested in how Mr. Ribeiro creates his work, you can join him and the dancers at any or all of three different occasions. Each experience includes a talk-back and refreshments.

Ribeiro, recently promoted to Principal Dancer and Company Choreographer for Dance Alive National Ballet, is a recent member of International Dance Council CID, the official world-wide organization of all forms of dance. Among other benefits, he is able to offer International Certification to his students and nominate other persons for CID membership.
