MICANOPY, Fla. — Modern ham radio offers an expansive world of hobby electronics, global competitions, and high-tech experimentation. Members of the Gainesville Amateur Radio Society invite the public to join them in downtown historic Micanopy on Saturday, August 15, at 2:00 p.m. to take a visual and historical journey through the evolution of radio communications.

WHERE: Micanopy Branch Library, 706 NE Cholokka Blvd., Micanopy, Florida (inside the Town Hall building)

Attendees will explore the progression of amateur radio technology, tracing its arc from the 1950s to the cutting-edge digital modes, satellite tracking, and global internet-linked networks used by operators today.

The event will also highlight the critical role ham radio operators play during emergency situations when severe storms knock out cell towers, internet infrastructure, and local power grids.
