“Do What You Love to End Alz” bridge tournament to be held on June 14 to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Association

Press release from Oak Hammock at the University of Florida

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Once again, Oak Hammock at the University of Florida and the Gainesville Bridge Club will host the annual bridge tournament to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Association. Formally known as The Longest Day, the tournament has been hosted at Oak Hammock since 2013.

In 2026, the Alzheimer’s Association expanded its annual The Longest Day fundraiser into Do What You Love to End ALZ™. The updated name reflects a broader vision: do what you love to honor who you love.

Over 40 Oak Hammock residents and other community participants will be playing in two different bridge matches. The first match will start at 1:15 p.m., and the second will begin around 5:15 p.m. The local group anticipates over 40 participants. Walk-ins are permitted, and registration will be accepted at the door. Table fee is $15/person/game.

To date, bridge players have raised more than $12 million for the Alzheimer’s Association. The local group expects to raise over $12,000 by the end of the day.

Bridge is uniquely suited for Do What You Love to End ALZ™ because studies have shown that playing strategic games, like bridge, help keep your brain healthy.

At Oak Hammock, the participants will be able to bid for many exciting silent auction items, using cash, check, or credit card. All proceeds will go to the Alzheimer’s Association. Winners will be announced at the end of the day.

There will be plenty of complimentary food throughout the afternoon and evening.

Please note: This event IS open to the public.
