Driver hospitalized after rollover accident near Waldo

Press release from Alachua County Fire Rescue

At 8:48 p.m. on Saturday, October 16, units from Alachua County Fire Rescue (ACFR) and Melrose Fire Rescue responded to a report of a vehicle rollover with occupants entrapped, outside the Waldo city limits. Units arrived on scene to find a single vehicle, on its roof, with a driver still in the vehicle. After crews stabilized the vehicle and made it safe for patient extrication, crews used high-powered extrication tools, known as the “Jaws of Life,” to remove the vehicle from around the victim so the occupant could be safely removed. This was done quickly by highly trained crews, and the victim was taken, immediately, to the hospital. FHP is still investigating the incident. ACFR would like to remind everyone to always wear your seatbelt when traveling.
