Early morning fire threatens neighboring residence

Press release from Gainesville Fire Rescue

At approximately 2:26 a.m. this morning, Gainesville Fire Rescue crews were dispatched to a residential building fire in the area of 668 NE 16th Terr. Firefighters arrived on scene in just under three minutes and immediately began applying water to the fire and searching for victims. A total of 18 firefighters were on scene within 5 minutes and had the bulk of the fire under control within approximately 10 minutes of arrival.

Firefighters then began searching for hot spots and ventilating the home. Due to the extreme heat from the original structure fire, firefighters identified fire conditions on the 1st and 2nd floor interior of the home next door. Instantaneously, firefighters began working two separate structure fires. Crews made quick work of the fire in the building next door.

This fire is currently under investigation to determine the origin and cause.
