Elderly pedestrian killed in parking lot of Harbor Cove Home

Press release from Florida Highway Patrol

A 77-year-old woman was fatally injured this morning after being struck by a car at Harbor Cove Home.

At 6:55 a.m. this morning, a sedan driven by a 58-year-old woman, with 4 children as passengers, was exiting Harbor Cove Apartments. She turned right into the parking area in front of the Harbor Cove Home apartment complex building, 6815 W. University Ave., where a 77-year-old woman was walking south on the sidewalk between the parking area and the office building.

For reasons that are still being investigated, the car drove onto the sidewalk and struck the elderly woman; the woman was underneath the vehicle when it finally stopped. The driver and the pedestrian were both transported to the hospital. The driver was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, and the pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
