Evening fire at Waldo Road gas station quickly extinguished

Press release from Gainesville Fire Rescue

At approximately 10:25 p.m. on April 11, Gainesville Fire Rescue crews were dispatched to a working fire at the Sunoco gas station at 2222 NE Waldo Rd. Firefighters encountered a working fire concentrated to the outside of the storefront associated with the gas station. The location was not occupied, and the gas pumps and fuel were not involved in the fire.

The first-arriving unit arrived on-scene three minutes after being dispatched. Twenty-two Gainesville Fire Rescue Fire Fighters, along with a rescue crew from Alachua County Fire Rescue, responded to the scene and were able to quickly gain control and ultimately extinguish the fire.

Waldo road was shut down while crews were fighting the fire, but it was quickly reopened once the scene was stabilized. This fire is currently under investigation to determine the origin and cause.
