Extended closure of Johnson Street railroad crossing in Hawthorne starts Monday

HAWTHORNE, Fla. – Johnson Street (SE 221st Street) will close in the immediate area of the railroad crossing as part of a project to close the existing crossing at Johnson Street, open an adjacent crossing at SE 71st Avenue just north of Johnson Street, and complete signal upgrades.

The closure is expected to begin Monday, July 10, at 8 a.m. and last for approximately 40 days, weather and unforeseen circumstances permitting. During the closure, members of the Florida Highway Patrol will be onsite to ensure safety.

During the closure, drivers should follow signs through the detours below:

Johnson Street south of the crossing: Traffic will travel north on SE 221st Street, east on SE 73rd Avenue, north on U.S. 301/N. Main Street, and west on SE 69th Avenue to access SE 221st Street.

Johnson Street north of the crossing: Traffic will travel south on SE 221st Street, east on SE 69th Avenue, south on U.S. 301/N. Main Street, and west on SE 73rd Avenue to access SE 221st Street.
