FHP issues motorist advisory for U.S. 301 in Hawthorne

Staff report

HAWTHORNE, Fla. – The Florida Highway Patrol, in coordination with the Florida Forest Service, is actively monitoring the area of US 301 and SW 122nd Lane for residual smoke following a 900+ acre brush fire.

Motorists traveling through this area may encounter significantly reduced visibility. Drivers are urged to use extreme caution by reducing speedincreasing following distance, and using low‑beam headlights to improve visibility in smoky or fog‑like conditions.

Visibility may deteriorate rapidly, particularly during nighttime and early morning hours, when smoke can combine with moisture to create dense, hazardous conditions. Travelers should remain alert and prepared for sudden changes while driving through the affected area.
