Fire at DJ Coin Laundry quickly extinguished

At approximately 7:56 p.m. on Sunday, September 27, GFR crews responded to a commercial building fire at 405 NE 23rd Ave (DJ Coin Laundry). After arriving on the scene, crews from Gainesville Fire Rescue Station 1 reported smoke coming from the front of the building. Gainesville Fire Rescue District Chief Cary Williams established incident command of the scene. GFR unit engine 5 quickly extinguished the fire that was confined to a single dryer unit, while GFR ladder truck 1 commenced a search of the building looking for occupants.
Thankfully, no occupants were inside the building when the fire started, and no firefighters were injured. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
