Fire at Wynwood Apartments extinguished quickly

At approximately 2:55 p.m. this afternoon, Gainesville Fire Rescue crews were dispatched to an apartment fire at 3461 SW 2nd Ave, Wynwood Apartments. Firefighters reported finding a second floor apartment full of smoke with heavy fire conditions in the kitchen.
The first arriving unit arrived on scene in under 4 minutes and quickly extinguished the fire as other crews arrived to search the apartment and assist with ventilation. Twenty-three fire fighters responded to the scene, and the fire was extinguished within 8 minutes of arrival, preventing the spread of smoke and fire to neighboring apartments.
This fire is currently under investigation to determine the origin and cause.
