Fire crews extinguish kitchen fire that spread to attic

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – This afternoon, fire crews extinguished a kitchen fire that spread to the attic of a house; all occupants of the home, including pets, escaped safely.

At about 5:39 p.m., crews from Alachua County Fire Rescue, Gainesville Fire Rescue, and the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office responded to a house fire in a neighborhood behind HCA Florida North Florida Hospital.

Crews found an active fire that started in the kitchen and extended into the attic space, with heavy smoke and heat in the kitchen. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and checked to see if it had spread.

The incident was investigated and found to be unintentional.
