Fire crews respond to Hawthorne kitchen fire, transport one to hospital, rescue a dog

HAWTHORNE, Fla. – Last night, crews from multiple agencies responded to a kitchen fire at a home in Hawthorne and quickly extinguished the fire. A dog was rescued, and one resident of the home was transported to a local hospital.
At about 8:50 p.m. on November 9, units from Alachua County Fire Rescue, the Melrose Fire Department, and the Windsor Fire Department responded to reports of a house fire off of SE 215th Street in Hawthorne.
Engine 62 arrived on scene and found a small two-story house with an active kitchen fire. Engine 62 was able to enter the house quickly and extinguish the blaze in the kitchen. While searching the rest of the house for any hazards, Engine 62 was able to rescue one dog, which was not injured. One of the occupants was evaluated and transported to a local hospital.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Alachua County Fire Marshal. Alachua County Fire Rescue would like to remind everyone to check the batteries in your smoke detector.
