Fire crews respond to residential fire in Hawthorne

HAWTHORNE, Fla. – Fire crews responded this evening to a residential fire in Hawthorne; no injuries were reported.
At about 6:24 p.m. on February 17, units from Alachua County Fire Rescue, Windsor Fire Department, Melrose Fire Department, and the Cross Creek Fire Department responded to reports of a house fire in Hawthorne. Units arrived to find a single-story residence with heavy fire showing from the roof.
Firefighters used multiple hose lines to control the fire, which spread to the adjacent grass. No one was at home during the fire, and no one was injured.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Alachua County Fire Marshal. Alachua County Fire Rescue would like to remind all citizens to please make sure you have working smoke detectors in your home.
