Firefighters extinguish fire in attic of High Springs home

HIGH SPRINGS, Fla. – At 7:36 p.m. last night, firefighters from High Springs, Newberry, and Alachua County responded to a report of a residential structure fire in the 18700 block of NW 240th Street in High Springs.

High Springs Fire Department Engine 29 arrived within four minutes of dispatch and observed smoke coming from the roof of the single-story home. Further investigation revealed a fire in the attic, and firefighters deployed two hose lines to the home. The fire was contained to the attic and was extinguished by 8:07 p.m.

The American Red Cross was requested to assist one adult male and one female. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Alachua County Fire Marshal.

The address of the fire is the same as the residence that was raided by a SWAT team on Monday, resulting in an arrest on drug and firearm charges.
