According to a release from Florida Highway Patrol, five local residents were involved in a four-vehicle accident at 6:35 p.m. last night at the intersection of SR 26 and SE 6th Street in Gilchrist County.
A marked Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) vehicle driven by a 30-year-old Lake City man was traveling eastbound on SR 26 and stopped in traffic. An SUV occupied by a 52-year-old man and 53-year-old woman from Archer stopped behind the FWC vehicle. A sedan driven by a 25-year-old Chiefland man with two passengers, a 25-year-old woman and a one-year-old child from Cross City, also came to a stop behind the other two cars.
An SUV driven by a 25-year-old Gainesville man, with two passengers, a 6-year-old boy and 2-year-old boy, failed to notice the stopped vehicles and struck the rear of the sedan, which caused the sedan to strike the SUV, and the SUV struck the FWC vehicle. The woman and child in the sedan were seriously injured, and the driver of the sedan had minor injuries.
