Press release from Florida Museum of Natural History

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Check out over 100 plant species at the Florida Museum of Natural History’s annual spring plant sale this Friday, April 11, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the University of Florida’s Cultural Plaza.

The Florida Museum’s spring plant sale will feature pollinator-friendly native, host, and nectar plants like butterfly weed, golden alexander, white indigo, and more. Unlike previous years, this year’s sale is one day only instead of the entire weekend.

“We have a dedicated audience of plant lovers, so we’re very excited to continue having our plant sales during our expansion,” said Ryan Fessenden, the Florida Museum’s “Butterfly Rainforest” exhibit manager and plant sale organizer. “Apart from this being one day only, it will function identically to last year’s and provide a great opportunity for people to beautify their yards and gardens.”

While the Florida Museum is temporarily closed for a large-scale expansion project, the Harn Museum of Art will open at 10 a.m. for guests’ restroom access during the plant sale. The museum’s online parking lot map indicates the plant pickup area and the parking changes in the Cultural Plaza due to construction.

Attendees will be able to purchase plants on a first-come, first-served basis with cash, credit card, or debit card at the outdoor registers.

Additionally, multiple volunteer shifts for those 18 years or older are available during the plant sale. Sign up for a shift here and receive a discount on plant purchases.
