Food delivery driver arrested for selling crack cocaine to confidential source

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Handy Roman Ford Jr., 46, was arrested yesterday for allegedly selling crack cocaine to a confidential source in February.

In early February 2026, a Gainesville Police Department officer working with the Gainesville Alachua County Drug Task Force used a confidential source to conduct a controlled purchase of approximately 10 grams of crack cocaine from Ford in a parking lot at the intersection of NW 13th Street and NW 39th Avenue. Ford allegedly arranged the transaction by phone.

Ford has been charged with selling a controlled substance and unlawful use of a two-way communications device. He told Court Services that he works for both DoorDash and Uber Eats as a delivery driver. He has nine felony convictions (two violent) and 13 misdemeanor convictions (two violent), and he has served four state prison sentences, with his most recent release in 2019. Judge Susan Miller-Jones set bail at $150,000.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • Confidential Source means Criminal caught and turning on anyone they can to escape paying for their crimes

  • They got convicted felons delivering food to students ? I didn’t know that I would be face to face with a convicted felon coming to my door for food delivery… I didn’t know door dash & Uber Eats were that dangerous. Should GNV and Alachua county prohibit convicted felons from delivering food? I’ve heard of drivers spitting in food if you didn’t tip good…

  • Best to do takeout instead, in person. Sad that DoorDash and Uber Eats do not screen their contractors. DoorDash also uses A.I. to let deliveries pile up over time before picking them up, at least with some chains using A.I.

  • Door dash and Uber eats do background checks on all of their drivers i know because I went through the background check process before being allowed to deliver for them. It depends on the nature of the felonies.
