Press release from The Frazer School
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Frazer School 10th-grade chess team just got back from Maryland after pulling off an upset to win the national championship.
The team consists of Abhiram Pothuri, Jerry Yao, and Jolie Huang. Abhiram took 3rd place, Jerry took 21st, and Jolie took 42nd. They won with 14.5 points, and the second-place had 14.0. A truly team effort.
Frazer School Chess Coach Britt Ryerson said the team beat some really strong powerhouse chess teams from the northeast. Abhiram probably had the best tournament of his life and beat some kids with higher ratings. Ryerson said these three have been together for a very long time and have been dominant local players in their age bracket. They will accomplish more great things before they are done.
