GAINESVILLE, Fla. – On Saturday, March 29, The Frazer School Quiz Bowl team won the 2025 Florida Quiz Bowl State Championship. 14 teams from 10 schools across Florida came to UF for the competition, which consists of 10 games of buzzer-based questions on various academic topics, including science, math, history, geography, and literature. Frazer School’s A Team won the tournament with a record of 9-1, beating Montverde Academy (Montverde) and Darnell-Cookman A (Jacksonville), which tied for second place with records of 8-2.

Results can be found on the website of National Academic Quiz Tournaments (NAQT), which writes questions for Quiz Bowl tournaments at the Middle School, High School, and College levels. NAQT is the largest organization for academic competitions in the U.S. and will host a 320-team High School National Championship in Atlanta on May 24-25. Eight teams from Florida are registered for Nationals, including two from Frazer School.

Frazer School’s Quiz Bowl coach, David Geering, says “It’s great to see students coming from across Florida to test their knowledge in a competitive setting. I applaud UF’s Quiz Bowl club for organizing the state championship. Our A Team performed well, especially considering two of our best players, Vijay and Westin, were in other competitions. There is a lot of young talent both at Frazer and in other Florida schools, I hope we see more of these academic competitions going forward!”

Two Frazer School students placed in the top 8 for individual scoring: Abhiram Pothuri (4th place, 65 points per game) and Jessica Wu (6th place, 45 points per game).
