Frazer School wins 5th-grade national Math League championship

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Frazer School is pleased to announce that its 5th-grade team placed first out of 394 schools across the U.S., Canada, and even Australia, in the annual Math League competition that took place in April.
Math League is the largest network of local and state math competitions at the elementary, middle, and high school levels in the United States and abroad. Students were given 30 minutes to solve 30 math problems.
Fifth-grade students who earned the top scores for The Frazer School were Jayden Wu, with a perfect score of 30, and Alice Ding, Maxwell Ji, Long Ma, and Henry Tang, with scores of 29. In addition, Eileen Shin, Yiqi Ethan Song, Adam Vora, Austin Yang, and Marty Yu each scored 28.
The 4th-grade team also did very well, ranking fifth out of 316 schools. The Frazer School’s top-scoring students were Miriel Johnson and Riley Ding, with scores of 28, and Kayla Chen, Davi Pinto, Bert Zhang, and Andrew Zhou, each with a score of 27.
Math League offers an annual Summer Math Camp at The College of New Jersey in July. Twenty-three 4th- and 5th-grade students from The Frazer School qualified for this camp. Math teacher Pauline Watson said, “Working with these talented math students at Frazer has been the highlight of my career teaching gifted students for more than 26 years. Their dedication and motivation is commendable.”
The Frazer School would also like to recognize two more of its budding mathematicians who ranked highly in another prestigious competition – Math Kangaroo. First-grader Micah Mao (pictured at the awards ceremony in Orlando) placed second in the state, while second-grader Arielle Duan finished fourth in the state.
The pictures show the trophy winners at the Frazer Elementary Math Invitational, held on May 2nd. This competition was hosted by Frazer elementary teachers Pauline Watson and Britt Ryerson and was open to all students in Gainesville.
The top ten students in fifth grade were Long Ma, Jayden Wu (not pictured), Henry Tang, Ethan Yiqi Song, Alice Ding, Ethan Shang, Albert Dai, Maxwell Ji, Rigel Sonstroem, and Rishan Kalaisenthil.
The top ten fourth-graders were Catherine Wang, Victoria Xu, ZhenYuan Xue, Catherine Song, Marty Yu, Riley Ding, Miriel Johnson, Jonathan Zheng, Marshall Ader, and Davi Pinto.
